GLENN JOHNSON

OWNER, SWITCH WILLO STABLES

Glenn arrived at Switch Willo Stables in 1967. Glenn and Lucy Johnson (Sister of wife; Phoebe Johnson) attended Austin High School together. Glenn bragged that he could jump 6 feet with a horse. After Glenn vaunted about his skills, the Johnson's decided to see for themselves... needless to say, this lead to the family buying 'Cricket', an ex-bucking horse.

Glenn began his career at Switch Willo Stables in 1968. Among the many highlights of his career is being featured in Sports Illustrated for his numerous wins aboard Cricket in Puissance (High Jump) classes. Glenn was chosen as an alternate for the United States Equestrian Team for the Pan American Games in 1973 with a client owned gelding - 'Simple Simon', holding a record for continuous wins. Glenn and 'Simple Simon' were rising to the top during the two years that they spent together, leading to a reserve for the national title and championships at the year end indoor shows at Harrisburg, Washington D.C and Madison Square Garden.

Glenn is well-known for his numerous wins aboard his geldings - 'Cricket' and 'The Deputy', in the high jump events where they cleared close to 7' and over many times. Glenn showed in many states, including Alabama, California, Canada, Florida, New York, Tennessee and Virginia, and competed in top competitions, such as the American Gold Cup, the American Invitational and the Winter Equestrian Festival in Florida - showing in the jumper divisions and the Grand Prix. He competed in national and international jumper divisions on both 'Cricket' and 'The Deputy'.

Through out Glenn's travels and experiences, Glenn and Phoebe have had the pleasure of meeting many of the top trainers and riders all around the country. Glenn and Phoebe married in 1973.

Switch Willo is proud to be the home of numerous year end award winners at the local, state and national level.
